This decision comes as the professional team prepares for the upcoming Copa do Brasil semifinal against Bahia on Tuesday, the 3rd. Coach Celso Silva has opted to focus on training the main squad during this time, ensuring they are well-prepared for the crucial match ahead.
The Sub-20 team, which recently claimed the Brasileiro title in May and triumphed in the Torneio Internacional Estrelas, has shown impressive form. Earlier this year, they participated in a Copa Rio Profissional match, featuring key players such as Ana Laura and Fabi Simões, where they achieved a remarkable 7-0 victory over Real Heips.
André Rocha, the women’s football manager, expressed confidence in the decision to field the Sub-20 team, highlighting the importance of long-term development and the successful training processes within the club’s youth system. He stated, “With the confirmation of the Copa do Brasil semifinal dates, we decided that our Sub-20 team would make its debut in the state championship. This decision prioritizes the adequate preparation time and physical recovery of the main squad. We have full confidence in the work being done in our youth categories. In the current season, the Sub-20 has played 23 matches, achieving 16 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses, scoring 70 goals while conceding 20. Key players in the scoring department include Brendha with 13 goals, followed by Alice and Ana Papel with 8 goals each.
