In a significant move for the club, Flamengo has announced the contract renewal of defender Danilo, extending his stay until December 2027. The announcement was made on Wednesday, the 28th, at the George Helal Training Center, where Danilo was joined by his children, João and Miguel, for the signing ceremony.

Reflecting on his journey with the club, Danilo expressed a sense of fulfillment regarding his contributions since joining Flamengo nearly two years ago. He stated, “The first feeling is of duty fulfilled. Since I came to Flamengo, the goal was to develop work both internally and externally. The aim was to win important trophies and enrich Flamengo’s history with titles. I feel that I have helped Flamengo increase its gallery of significant trophies in world football.”

Since making his debut on February 2, 2025, in a 3-1 victory against Botafogo in the Supercopa do Brasil, Danilo has played 57 matches, scoring six goals and providing two assists. In the current year, he has participated in 21 games, netting one goal.

Danilo has become a key figure in Flamengo’s recent successes, notably scoring the decisive goal in the 2025 CONMEBOL Libertadores final against Palmeiras, which took place in Lima, Peru. His career also includes stints with clubs such as América-MG, Santos, Porto, Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Juventus, where he has secured five titles with Flamengo: the Supercopa do Brasil (2025), Campeonato Carioca (2025 and 2026), Libertadores (2025), and Campeonato Brasileiro (2025).

On the international stage, Danilo stands out as the only player to have won the Libertadores twice (with Santos in 2011 and Flamengo in 2025) and the UEFA Champions League twice (with Real Madrid in the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons). He has also represented the Brazilian national team in 75 matches, contributing one goal and four assists, and participating in three World Cups (2018, 2022, and 2026), two Copa América tournaments (2021 and 2024), and the 2012 Olympics.

José Boto, Flamengo’s director of football, emphasized Danilo’s impact both on and off the pitch as a key reason for the contract extension. He remarked, “He was my second signing when I arrived here. A very important player, not just for what he brings on the field, but for everything he does off the field. His daily work and the unity he fosters within the group are as crucial as his performance during matches.”

Boto also highlighted Danilo’s international experience and his role as a mentor to younger players in the squad, stating, “He is an athlete with a unique career, always a winner. Someone who has much to pass on to younger players.”

Looking ahead, Danilo shared his aspirations for the future, emphasizing his desire to continue winning titles with Flamengo. He concluded, “More titles, victories, and important goals are undoubtedly the objectives. It requires a lot of work and preparation. Flamengo’s history demands nothing less than dedication, resilience, and, of course, achievements. Playing for Flamengo always comes with the positive pressure of competing for significant honors and lifting the most important trophies possible.”
