The Flamengo Maricá women’s team is gearing up for the 2026 Carioca Feminino Championship, with their first match scheduled for Wednesday, October 28, against Araruama at Gávea. The announcement was made by the FERJ on Monday evening, revealing the fixtures for the second phase of the tournament.
As the reigning champions, having won the title three consecutive times and a total of nine championships, Flamengo will face five opponents in this initial stage: Araruama, Botafogo, Fluminense, Real Heips, and Vasco. This year, the competition format has changed significantly from previous seasons.
In the past, teams competed in the Taça Guanabara, with the top four advancing. Now, the format has shifted, allowing all six teams to compete against each other, with the top two ultimately vying for the championship in a two-legged final.
Head coach Celso Silva, who recently led the team to the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil and had a successful run in the Brasileirão Feminino, expressed his ambitions for the upcoming season. He emphasized the importance of the state championship as they conclude their season and reiterated the team’s commitment to securing the title.
“We understand the significance of the Estadual for wrapping up our season, and we will work hard, as we have all year, to put Flamengo at the top. We also have the Copa do Brasil, and we plan to utilize our squad effectively. We are counting on everyone, and our goal is to lift the trophy,” Silva stated.
